HR Tech Company Ascentis Accelerates New Direction with Change in Headquarters from Silicon Valley to Minnesota

Move reflects transformation of direction, culture and goals toward a high growth future.

MINNEAPOLIS--()--There’s a new mid-market Human Capital Management (HCM) technology provider in town. Historically headquartered in San Mateo, California, the transition in location for the Ascentis headquarters was inspired by the new line-up of executives, who believe that great technology talent also exists here in the Midwest. Staying true to the vision of a high growth culture, Ascentis leadership looks to build out a fast paced, growing workforce to effectively tackle the underserved HCM needs of mid-sized organizations.

A timeline towards rapid growth
In the last 14 months, Ascentis has been preparing to scale for rapid growth. Starting in March 2017, Summit Equity Partners announced a significant financial investment in Ascentis and introduced Brian Provost as CEO, a software industry leader with more than 20 years of executive experience building high growth Minnesota based technology businesses. The executive leadership team quickly expanded from there to include other SaaS industry veterans in an effort to accelerate advanced HCM technology strategies including improved service and support, accelerated product development and increased market share.

A more visible strategy, was moving the Ascentis headquarters from California to Minnesota. The executive team strived for transparency and visibility across the organization to enable the growth goals of the organization, so shifting most of the core team to sit out of a central office was equal parts a culture and strategic business decision.

High growth plan: New HQ paves the way for increased momentum
Provost and the rest of the executive leadership team at Ascentis recognize the need within the HR and Human Capital mid-market for integrated technologies, providing clients the ability to acquire a full suite of HR technology solutions at their own pace, including HR & Benefits, Payroll, Talent Management, Workforce management, and Talent Acquisition. To ensure clients are equipped to optimally leverage their investment in these HCM solutions, the service and support experience is critical.

This sentiment rings true as a cornerstone for Ascentis. In May, Ascentis hosted their annual user-conference where over 200 clients engaged in product training and thought leadership breakout sessions. During the event, Provost stated, “The core mission of Ascentis is to provide the tools that help our clients better manage the most critical of all assets - the people. We understand the importance of the software, but what sets us apart is the energy, creativity, innovation and focus we place on servicing our clients. There’s whitespace in this industry regarding service, and we are well-positioned to continue growing based on that.”

Forward progress ignites in fresh space designed for collaboration
Undertaking the project to redesign a modern office which echoes Ascentis’ intent to re-brand amid huge growth plans feels like the big, red bow to wrap up what was a transformational year. Taking up the entire fourth floor of the Windsor Plaza in Eden Prairie, the beautifully designed nearly 30,000 square foot office is adorned with natural light in every corner and an innovative work space for every team. Currently built out for 85 employees, the space has room to scale right alongside the business, with the ability to support up to 190 Minnesota-based Ascentis team members. Ascentis currently has 200 employees and has plans to double in size over the next 24 months.

Motorized standing desks, a chic boardroom accessible to all employees, and a unique variety of conference rooms all lovingly named after Minnesota’s most popular lakes are just a few assets that make the new Ascentis HQ a true stand-out for prospective new hires. Employees feel at home with the breakroom at the center of it all, providing options of booths, risers, high tops and couch seating. And on Friday afternoons, there’s always time for a quick game of ping-pong.

“Although we are a technology enabling business, it’s our people that make all the difference for our clients. We are excited to be in a new headquarters space that fosters great communication, collaboration and energy. Serving the HR community, we have a strong appreciation for how important a great work environment is to create engaged employees, happy clients and a growing business,” said Brian Provost.
