Carey Mulligan Performs Girls & Boys for Audible

Acclaimed play premieres on-stage at the Minetta Lane and as a digital download for Audible listeners everywhere

NEWARK, N.J.--()--Audible Inc., the world’s largest seller and producer of downloadable audiobooks and other spoken-word entertainment, today announced the release of Girls & Boys, a pulse-pounding new play written by Tony Award-winning playwright Dennis Kelly and performed by Academy Award and Golden Globe nominated actress Carey Mulligan. The gripping one-person performance is available today on Audible for listeners across the globe, with the Audible theatrical production opening tonight at the Minetta Lane Theatre, Audible’s newly announced creative home for live performances in New York.

Girls & Boys, along with additional Audible performances of captivating stage productions starring Billy Crudup, Judith Light, John Lithgow, and others are available for preorder and download at www.audible.com/theater, where Audible listeners will also receive exclusive access to discounted tickets to the Girls & Boys live production.

“It’s really gratifying for me as a performer to be able to interpret this incredibly written play in two different forms with Audible,” said Mulligan. “I think people will take something different away from each version of the story.”

“Carey’s incredibly versatile vocal performance in Girls & Boys is truly mesmerizing,” said Audible Theater Artistic Producer Kate Navin. “We are thrilled to share this incredible demonstration of the power of voice with our millions of listeners, both live at the Minetta Lane, and on Audible where it can be experienced anywhere, and by anyone.”

Audible’s production in New York of Girls & Boys follows a run of the show at the Royal Court Theatre earlier this year, where critics raved:

“This is a one-person show. And what a person. Mulligan is extraordinary in Dennis Kelly’s gripping new play.” – The Observer

“A devastating tour-de-force from Carey Mulligan.” – The Telegraph

“A Hollywood megastar holding her own in an experimental but somehow also massively crowd-pleasing solo show – this is pretty rare.” – Time Out London

The fall and winter lineups at the Minetta Lane Theatre will be announced in the coming months and Audible will also be announcing live performances in other cities in the near future. Audible’s first live stage production at the Minetta Lane Theatre was the award-winning Harry Clarke, a sexually charged and wickedly funny one-man thriller performed by Tony Award-winning actor Billy Crudup. Audible also produced The Path to Pride, an event inspired by the new Audible Original of the same name, and a live storytelling experience featuring personal stories around LGBT pride co-hosted by Lance Bass and Nikki Levy on June 25th.

Last year, Audible announced a $5M fund to commission and produce new one- and two- person works by emerging playwrights from around the world driven by language and voice, in keeping with Audible’s core commitment to elevate listening experiences through powerful performances of brilliantly composed words. The first class of fifteen theater commissions includes Aaron Mark, Aditi Bernnan Kapil, Antoinette Nwandu, Bridgette A. Wimberly, Chisa Hutchinson, David Rossmer, Gary McNair, James Anthony Tyler, James Fritz, Lauren Gunderson, Leah Nakano Winkler, Madhuri Shekar, Nassim Soleimanpour, Paola Lazaro, and Regina Taylor.

With a 30-day membership trial at Audible, new listeners can enjoy any one audiobook, including Girls and Boys, free.
