WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Professional Fighters League (PFL) is coming to NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum for the first time with two action-packed Thursday night events. Tickets are now available for PFL 4 and PFL 5, the fourth and fifth of seven regular season events, on Thursday, July 19 and Thursday, August 2, respectively. The 2018 PFL season launched Thursday, June 7th, holding its first regular season event (PFL1) at Hulu Theatre at Madison Square Garden where 22 fighters battled it out in front of a sold-out arena.
PFL 4 & PFL 5 will each feature a full slate of make-or-break bouts as the fighters vie for the chance to compete in PFL’s 2018 playoffs leading up to the December 31 championship event, where the winner in each weight class will win the title and a $1 million prize. The July 19 card will feature match-ups in the featherweight and heavyweight divisions while lightweight and light heavyweight fighters will compete on August 2.
“We are thrilled to partner with BSE Global to bring live MMA action to fans in Long Island and across the greater New York City metropolitan area,” said Pete Murray, CEO of PFL. “Our July 19th and August 2nd events at NYCB LIVE will give both local and international fans an unprecedented opportunity to follow fighters live and on Facebook Watch and NBCSN as they compete to earn a spot in PFL’s $10 million post-season and championship event.”
The 2018 PFL season features 126 fights on Thursday nights in seven regular-season events, bracket-style “win-or-go-home” playoffs, and a $10 million post-season prize pool—the largest prize pool in the history of MMA. The season began with 12 athletes in each of six different weight-classes. Eight fighters from each class will earn their way into the playoff round, and one fighter in each division will earn the title of champion.
"We are excited to host the first PFL event on Long Island as NYCB LIVE becomes the local destination for MMA," said Brett Yormark, CEO of BSE Global. "Long Islanders are eager for this type of programming and we anticipate drawing a vibrant audience to experience the fights live."
“At PFL 4 on July 19 and PFL 5 on August 2, fighters will know where they stand, and who they need to defeat to earn one of the eight playoff spots in their division,” said Ray Sefo, PFL’s President, Fighting Operations. “The PFL’s unique regular season and playoff format means that during every round and every fight there is a chance for a new star to emerge, resulting in some of the most exciting action in all of MMA.”
Top contenders and break-out talents scheduled to be in the PFL 4 and 5 line-ups include Lance Palmer, Will Brooks, Alex Nicholson and Kelvin Tiller and a pair of Long Island natives, Andre Harrison and Chris Wade. Match-ups for both cards will be selected based on the results of the PFL 1 and PFL 2 fights on June 7 and June 21.
Tickets can be purchased at pflmma.com, ticketmaster.com, nycblive.com or at the Ticketmaster Box Office at NYCB LIVE.
