Pikes Peak Online School to Celebrate Third Graduating Class

Over 100 Online Students to Receive Diplomas at In-Person Graduation on June 8

WESTMINSTER, Colo.--()--Pikes Peak Online School (PPOS), an accredited, full-time online public school, will celebrate its third graduating class with an in-person commencement ceremony on Friday, June 8, at 10 a.m. at the Auraria Higher Education Center in Denver.

Colorado state senate majority leader Chris Holbert will deliver the keynote address. “Congratulations to the Pikes Peak Online School Class of 2018,” Senator Holbert said. “These students have worked hard to overcome obstacles to get where they are today. They should be extremely proud to reach this significant milestone.”

A school-record 111 students will graduate from PPOS, whose comprehensive education approach focuses on providing struggling students statewide in grades 9-12 with the academic, social and emotional support needed to reach graduation. In the event that a student is deficient in course credit, the school’s extensive credit recovery courses allow a student to get back on track for a successful graduation.

Students and teachers work together to develop an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP), which often expands beyond academic objectives to include post-secondary goals for college or a career. In addition, the online curriculum is bolstered by a Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) program, as well as a family support team to help students achieve success both academically and personally.

The PPOS Class of 2018 valedictorian is Maya Nott and the salutatorian is Justin Perry. Both students will address their classmates and share their stories of what they have overcome to reach graduation. Nott suffered a concussion with head trauma in 2015, leading to chronic migraines; PPOS allowed her to complete her schoolwork when she was feeling well. Perry has overcome several serious accidents, including a car crash caused by a drunk driver. K12 director of school improvement and support Mandral Blackmon will also deliver remarks to the graduating class.

Students choose online school for a variety of reasons, including a safe learning environment, advanced learning options and the ability to support extracurricular pursuits or medical needs.
