National Student Clearinghouse Joins with Liaison International to Enable Students to Submit Electronic Transcripts to Colleges Nationwide

Simplifies, Shortens Admissions Process for Students and Institutions

HERNDON, Va.--()--In response to student demand for a simplified college transcript and admissions’ process, the National Student Clearinghouse® and Liaison International announced today that they will work together to help students submit electronic transcripts to colleges and universities throughout the United States.

Institutions that participate with the Clearinghouse will be able to exchange electronic transcripts with more than 40 Liaison-powered Centralized Application Services (CASs™). A CAS is an intuitive online portal that students can use to research and apply to multiple undergraduate and graduate programs, with one set of application materials. Liaison processes 2.2 million college applications each year. See the list below of current participating CASs. More will be added throughout 2018.

This new approach delivers electronic transcripts within one business day with real-time status updates. Previously, CAS applicants were required to coordinate transcripts directly with the registrars’ offices and mail paper transcripts, which took five to seven days and did not include tracking.

“This electronic transcript exchange process will benefit the students of more than 1,000 colleges and universities, which the Clearinghouse currently serves with our Transcript Services and also reduce the institutions’ administrative burden,” said Jonell Sanchez, vice president of Education Services, National Student Clearinghouse. “Our goal is to benefit the 3,600 higher education institutions that we provide additional, education services.”

“According to our data, the average student applies to four to eight programs with their CAS application,” shared Deb Erdner, Liaison’s vice president of CAS operations. “The time, effort and financial costs of coordinating a transcript for each of those programs adds up! At Liaison, we’re committed to increasing access to education by simplifying the admissions process for students and all stakeholders. The Clearinghouse is the ideal organization to help us move closer to realizing that goal.”

Over the last two decades, Liaison has helped more than 7,000 programs on more than 800 campuses more effectively manage admissions through its CAS technology and complementary processing and support services. Partnering with more than 30 professional associations, the company has developed discipline-wide services for a range of fields, including most of the health professions, as well as engineering (EngineeringCAS), graduate management education (BusinessCAS), social work (SocialWorkCAS), psychology (PSYCAS) and architecture (ArchCAS).

About the National Student Clearinghouse®

The National Student Clearinghouse, a nonprofit formed in 1993, is the trusted source for and leading provider of higher education verifications and electronic education record exchanges. The Clearinghouse serves as a single point of contact for the collection and timely exchange of accurate and comprehensive enrollment, degree, and certificate records on behalf of its more than 3,600 participating higher education institutions, which represent 98 percent of all students in public and private U.S. institutions. The Clearinghouse also provides thousands of high schools and districts with continuing collegiate enrollment, progression, and completion statistics on their alumni.

Through its verification, electronic exchange, and reporting services, the Clearinghouse saves the education community cumulatively more than $750 million annually. Most Clearinghouse services are provided to colleges and universities at little or no charge, including enhanced transcript and research services, enabling institutions to redistribute limited staff and budget resources to more important student service efforts. Clearinghouse services are designed to facilitate an institution’s compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, The Higher Education Act, and other applicable laws. The Clearinghouse has signed the Student Privacy Pledge and is the first recipient of ikeepsafe.org’s FERPA compliance badge, which was awarded to its StudentTracker for High Schools service.
