Senator Chris Coons and Sallie Mae Chairman and CEO Raymond Quinlan to Make Special Delaware Scholarship Announcement to Honor Legacy of Former Executive Charlie Rocha

NEWARK, Del.--()--Employees from Sallie Mae, the nation’s saving, planning, and paying for college company, will join the local community to lace up for the second annual Sallie Mae 5K run on Sunday, June 3. Senator Chris Coons will help kick off the 5K — an employee-driven fundraiser to support the company’s Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program — which is open to the public and will be held at Bellevue State Park in Wilmington. Participants can register at www.SallieMae5K.com.

This year’s 5k will honor the late Charlie Rocha, former Sallie Mae chief marketing officer and champion of the Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program. The Rocha family will join Senator Coons and Sallie Mae Chairman and CEO Raymond Quinlan for a special Delaware scholarship announcement prior to the race.

Sallie Mae’s Bridging the Dream Scholarship program asks high school counselors to nominate students who have overcome obstacles and exemplify excellence both inside and outside the classroom. In the past two years, Sallie Mae has awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students through the program. Counselors and community organization leaders can nominate students beginning Aug. 23.
