Chairman and CEO Raymond Quinlan to Make Special Scholarship Announcement to Honor Legacy of Former Executive, Colleague, and Friend Charlie Rocha

NEWARK, Del.--()--Employees from Sallie Mae, the nation’s saving, planning, and paying for college company, will join the local community to lace up for the second annual Sallie Mae 5K run on Sunday, June 3. The Sallie Mae 5K — an employee-driven fundraiser to support the company’s Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program — is open to the public and will be held at Bellevue State Park in Wilmington. Participants can register at www.SallieMae5K.com.

This year’s 5k will honor the late Charlie Rocha, former Sallie Mae chief marketing officer and champion of the Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program. Rocha’s family, along with Sallie Mae Chairman and CEO Raymond Quinlan, will be on hand for a special scholarship announcement prior to the race.

Sallie Mae’s Bridging the Dream Scholarship program asks high school counselors from across the country to nominate students who have overcome obstacles and exemplify excellence both inside and outside the classroom. In the past two years, Sallie Mae has awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students through the program. Counselors and community organization leaders can nominate students beginning Aug. 23. For more details, visit SallieMae.com/BridgingTheDream.
