Michigan Great Lakes Virtual Academy to Hold Commencement Ceremony

Online School Honors Class of 2018 with In-Person Celebration

MANISTEE, Mich.--()--Michigan Great Lakes Virtual Academy (MGLVA) will celebrate the Class of 2018 at an in-person commencement ceremony on Sunday, June 3 at Waverly High School in Lansing. An accredited, full-time, online public charter school serving students in grades K-12, MGLVA is available tuition-free to students across the state.

Of this year’s graduating class of 199 students, 22 are graduating with honors. Collectively, the class reports having been accepted to colleges and universities across the country, including: Arizona State University, Baker College, Grand Valley State University, Pennsylvania State University, Rasmussen College, Schoolcraft Community College and Western Michigan University.

“We are proud of the Class of 2018 and all they have accomplished, and can’t wait for them to shine their light into the world,” says Kendall Schroeder, MGLVA Head of School. “Our online learning platform allows our students to lay a solid foundation for their next chapter, whether they plan to continue their education or enter the workforce.”

Adam Eastling will serve as valedictorian, and plans to attend Muskegon Community College. Tottiona Bushell will serve as salutatorian, and will pursue a public policy degree at Schoolcraft Community College. Both students are among MGLVA’s 24 Legacy Graduates, those students who have completed their entire high school careers at the online school.

MGLVA students access a robust online curriculum in the core subjects and a host of electives, and attend live virtual classes taught by Michigan-licensed teachers. MGLVA graduates earn their high school diplomas as they explore their interests in a personalized, online learning environment.

Adam and Tottiona, along with MGLVA Board President Dave Ohman, will speak at the commencement ceremony. Mr. Schroeder, recently named K12’s Head of School of the Year, as well as graduating seniors will be available for media interviews.
