DANBURY, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In November 2017, Praxair, Inc. (NYSE:PX) announced its surface technologies business would offer a limited number of in-kind grants to select North American universities involved in metal additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing.
The TruForm™ AMbition Grant was created by Praxair Surface Technologies (PST) to support the growth of additive manufacturing (AM) in the academic community. PST is a leading supplier of metal powders for AM, and supplies a full line of cobalt, copper, iron, nickel and titanium-based alloys to the industry.
TruForm™ is a gas atomized metal powder made specifically for 3D printing. Grant recipients will receive PST’s TruForm™ metal powder, along with engineering support for AM projects.
“Today we are pleased to announce the winners of the TruForm™ AMbition Grant,” said Andy Shives, business manager for Additive Manufacturing at PST. “There were so many excellent applicants, we’re thrilled to announce more than five recipients.”
The following universities were selected:
- Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis
- University of Dayton
- University of Louisville
- University of Pittsburgh
- Pennsylvania State University
- Oklahoma State University-Stillwater
The winning projects involve various technologies, including laser powder bed, directed energy deposition and binder jetting for AM. PST will partner with AM programs at these universities to assist with analysis of microstructure effects, and to improve process parameters and part properties using PST’s wide portfolio of metal alloys.
“As the academic community continues to embrace this emerging technology, PST is committed to supporting the next generation of engineers,” continued Shives.
