Fujitsu PalmSecure® F-Pro Biometrics Achieves Electronic Prescriptions for Controlled Substances (EPCS) Certification from Drug Enforcement Administration approved Lab

Testing ensures that PalmSecure technology meets or exceeds requirements of 21 Code of Federal Regulations Parts 1311.116 Additional requirements for biometrics

FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif.--()--Fujitsu Frontech North America Inc., a leader in innovative technology and front-end solutions announces today that PalmSecure F-Pro palm vein biometrics has achieved certification from iBeta Quality Assurance, an independent lab for Electronic Prescription for Controlled Substances (EPCS) as set forth in the CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS, TITLE 21 FOOD AND DRUGS, CHAPTER 11 DRUG ENFORCEMENT ADMINISTRATION, DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, PART 1311, REQUIREMENTS FOR ELECTRONIC ORDERS AND PRESCRIPTIONS, Subpart C Electronic Prescriptions, Sections § 1311.116 Additional requirements for biometrics. Electronic prescriptions for controlled substances, also known as EPCS, is a technology solution to help address the problem of prescription drug abuse in the United States. The rule “Electronic Prescriptions for Controlled Substances,” provides medical practitioners with the option of writing and transmitting prescriptions for controlled substances electronically. The regulations also permit pharmacies to receive, dispense, and archive these electronic prescriptions.

“We are excited that PalmSecure F-Pro has been rigorously tested and EPCS certified. This will enable Fujitsu to further execute the company strategy of expanding our healthcare portfolio into national chain and independent pharmacies," says Michi Sugawara, president, Fujitsu Frontech North America Inc. “EPCS certification will allow Fujitsu and its partners to expand their ecosystem beyond positive patient identification at hospitals, urgent care and doctor’s offices to now include pharmacies, thereby closing the loop in dispensed controlled substances.”

PalmSecure biometric palm vein sensors use a near-infrared light to capture a user’s palm vein pattern, generating a unique biometric template that is matched against the palm vein patterns of pre-registered users. Unlike other forms of biometric technologies, PalmSecure technology is the only completely internal biometric technology and is extremely hygienic as the PalmSecure reader does not come into contact with the skin or any other part of the body. PalmSecure sensors are non-intrusive and unrestricted by external factors such as skin types, topical lotions, and other conditions. Additionally, unlike other biometric technologies where a certain percentage of the public cannot register for one reason or another, PalmSecure technology has never failed to register a user.

Fujitsu’s biometric solutions, PalmSecure sensors and PalmSecure for SSO (single sign-on) only recognize the palm vein pattern if blood is actively flowing within the individual’s veins, so forgery is virtually impossible. This advanced, vascular pattern recognition technology not only provides highly reliable authentication with low false accept and reject rates, but also allows for fast and easy enrollment.
