ADP drops out of Leader quadrant, Kronos maintains position as Ceridian outpaces the competition

BOSTON--()--Competition is narrowing among Workforce Management (WFM) vendors as innovation and customer value now drive the decision process. Legacy WFM providers that have relied primarily on their past reputations are quickly losing ground to those vendors adding exciting new features and functionality while also improving overall usability.

This year’s leaders for the 2018 WFM Value Matrix include: Ceridian, Infor, Kronos, SumTotal Systems and Workforce Software.

“The era of simply riding on past accomplishments and a reputation that was forged decades ago is finally over. Not your parent’s payroll app, workforce management today plays a highly strategic role in optimizing productivity and competency across the organization. Vendors delivering real value (and real cloud solutions) have taken the lead, as the Value Matrix clearly shows,” said Brent Skinner, principal analyst at Nucleus Research.

Once industry stalwarts, previous mainstays have steadily lost ground and are scrambling to keep pace with the new establishment. Simply having a long history in developing WFM business tools isn’t enough to mitigate increasing scrutiny from deeply dissatisfied customers. In order to find solid ground back among leading solutions, stalled legacy vendors must execute a healthy go-live cadence for still-in-development cloud solutions that actually live up to customer expectations.

As innovative vendors distinguish themselves, they are underscoring continued innovation with new product launches, full cloud integration for enterprise suites and deepening time and attendance tools with complex scheduling capabilities. One clear leader took advantage of a strong market position to launch an Initial Public Offering (IPO) this year and, shortly ahead of the this report’s publishing, become a public company.
