NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Institutional fixed income asset manager Ramirez Asset Management, Inc. (RAM), continued to grow its assets as a top performer in the fixed income space through the first quarter of 2018, delivering solid returns and winning new and expanded mandates from institutional investors.
As of March 31, 2018, RAM managed $2.1 billion in assets, a 31 percent increase year-over-year.
RAM’s roster of clients includes public and corporate defined benefit and defined contribution plans, insurance companies, endowments and foundations. Today RAM works with eight of the nation's top 50 largest corporate and public retirement plans, utilizing its Core, Strategic Core Plus and Long Duration investment strategies.
For the period ending March 31, 2018, RAM’s Core strategy was ranked among the top decile of the eVestment U.S. Core fixed income manager universe for its one-, three- and five-year returns. Its Strategic Core strategy was ranked among the top quartile of the eVestment Core Plus Fixed Income manager universe for the same periods.
"Our unique investment process is consistent and repeatable, as illustrated by our strong excess returns over the long term," said Sam Ramirez Jr., founder, president and chief executive officer of RAM. "Our vast investment experience in the fixed income market across a variety of economic cycles means that we can generate and quickly execute the industry's best ideas for our clients."
The RAM team consists of 18 investment professionals, with the portfolio management team averaging 22 years of investment experience in the fixed income markets. In addition to Sam Ramirez Jr., the investment team is led by managing director Louis A. Sarno, and senior vice presidents Helen Yee, CFA, Alex Bud, CFA, and Janet Henry, CFA.
In 2017, RAM saw growth in several of its investment strategies in both the defined benefit and defined contribution markets, which are priorities for the firm. RAM is also actively marketing its stable value product: in January 2018, the firm was awarded a sub advisory stable value mandate for a large state defined contribution pension fund. RAM’s investment strategies are also being considered in white label and customized DC plans.
“As the DC market becomes more focused on white label and sub advisory products, including stable value and target date strategies, RAM is well positioned with attractive returns and relationships with record keepers, administrators, wrap coordinators and wrap providers,” said James Haddon, managing director and head of strategic marketing for RAM.
RAM uses top-down macroeconomic analysis and bottom-up, issuer-level research. The firm’s proprietary models and systems exploit inefficiencies inherent in several fixed income sectors and sub-sectors to generate excess returns. RAM’s unique allocation to taxable municipals is an advantage, as the sector's performance has a lower correlation to other areas of the fixed income market, providing strong excess returns and a high-quality investment alternative.
"We are an active and nimble manager with a passion for the fixed income markets and for delivering high quality service to our clients. We are thrilled that our investment process and market expertise continue to resonate with a growing list public and private institutions and the consultant community" said Ramirez.
