Uncertainty Assessment for IPMVP Provides Much-needed Guidance for M&V Contractors Around the World

Cadmus Authors Khawaja, Korn Contributed to EVO Report

WALTHAM, Mass.--()--Cadmus, a leading consultancy in areas from energy, water, and transportation to safety, security, and resilience, announced today that the Efficiency Valuation Organization (EVO) has released an essential new guide with major contributions from Cadmus experts. Chief Economist M. Sami Khawaja, Ph.D., served as chair of the EVO Uncertainty Assessment Sub-committee; Dave Korn, P.E., vice president of Cadmus’ measurement and engineering group, is one of the guide’s authors.

The Uncertainty Assessment for IPMVP (the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol®) addresses sources of uncertainty in M&V activities and notes reasonable efforts that "should be made to identify and attempt to minimize every potential source of uncertainty."

The full report is available only to paid EVO web subscribers until October 16, 2018. In the meantime, the table of contents can be viewed on EVO’s website.

“Finally, uncertainty assessment protocols are here!” said Khawaja. “This report has been in the making for a long time, and there is significant demand for it around the world. Formal assessment of energy savings risk is essential for the future of performance contracting. This guidance will have an important impact on performance-based energy efficiency contracts.”

The guide includes examples for each of the four IPMVP options: partially measured retrofit isolation savings, field measurement of the energy use of the systems to which the energy conservation measure was applied, measuring energy use at the whole facility level, and the use of computer simulation software to predict facility energy use and savings.

With more than 30 years of evaluation, measurement, and verification client service, Cadmus is the most experienced team in the business. Its nationally recognized EM&V experts have conducted more and larger evaluations than any other consultancy in the United States.
