The Amount You Could Spend on Your Gourmet Coffee Each Morning is What Some Canadians Spend on Two Days’ Worth of Food1

There is a hunger crisis in Canada and, unfortunately, many people are simply unaware of just how prevalent poverty is in their own backyards

TORONTO--()--

What:

Did you know that more than 850,000 people across Canada turn to food banks for help each month? When you factor in daily living expenses like rent, hydro, transportation and more, turning to a food bank to feed their family is often the only option for some Canadians.

Join the North York Harvest Food Bank and Catelli on Monday, April 30 at a special event to learn more about the true face of hunger that exists in Canada. You’ll get to hear real-life stories from families who regularly use the North York Harvest Food Bank, as well as community volunteers who help make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.

There will also be a hands-on cooking experience with TV personality and former Masterchef Canada contestant, Julie Miguel, who will work with guests to prepare a simple and nutritious meal with ingredients commonly found and available at food banks.

When:

Monday, April 30, 2018

6:00pm-8:00pm

Where:

Kitchen24

100 Marmora St #200
North York, ON
M9M 2X5

Additional Interview Opportunities:

  • Speak with both Pruneah Kim, Cooking for Change Animator, and Sarah Watson, Director of Community Engagement, North York Harvest Food Bank to learn more about food bank usage and the perception of hunger across Canada.
  • Speak with TV personality Julie Miguel about her thoughts on hunger in Canada and why empowering everyone with basic kitchen skills and healthy food is so important.
