CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--More than 1,200 enterprise information technology (IT) professionals gathered at the Sacramento Convention Center in Sacramento, CA for SHARE® Sacramento, March 11-16. Attendees enjoyed six days with over 500 technical education sessions that spanned topics such as IBM Z®, Security in the Enterprise, Analytics and Cloud as a Disruptive Technology.
Professionals in attendance heard a riveting and inspirational presentation by the first female F-14 Tomcat Fighter in U.S. Navy, corporate executive and mother Carey Lohrenz, on Monday, March 12. Lohrez shared her first-hand knowledge of how to overcome the many demands of daily work-life balance. “Lohrenz inspired us all to be a catalyst and to look beyond our situation and circumstances in order to remain focused on success," said Harry Williams, SHARE President. The event also hosted a Student Career Day featuring a Master the Mainframe Hackathon challenge that highlighted the power of z Systems in application development. Additionally, SHARE Academy offered a hands-on experience as participants immersed themselves in OO Programming, interfacing with .NET and Java, writing unit tests and RESTful web services, all while building new skills and learning how to bridge COBOL systems to Java and .NET using modern tools and practices.
On Tuesday, March 13, the industry's friendliest mainframe hackers, Chad Rikansrud and Phil Young, took the stage for their keynote presentation, Mainframe Security: Hacking Hearts and Minds. Young and Rikansrud stressed that without a greater focus on education and transparency, the world's largest organizations will be vulnerable to significant data breaches and the mainframe community will be unable to train the next generation of employees to prevent them. They shared their tips for addressing top security issues and how to get the mainframe in the hands of the younger generation so that they can continue an effective security strategy in the future.
