In the past couple of years, smart cities have been a key focus area of the Indian government. Till date, 90 cities have been selected by the Ministry of Urban Development under the Smart Cities Mission launched in July 2015. Together, these 90 cities are expected to entail investments worth over Rs 1.2 trillion.
The latest edition will provide a comprehensive analysis of the smart cities sector. In particular, it will provide a detailed update on the actual progress made so far for the 20 cities identified under the first bidding rounds. Further, the subsequent rounds announced so far are expected to offer significant opportunities to various stakeholders in the smart cities sector.
The report will thus attempt to highlight this opportunity by carrying out an in-depth analysis of the project pipeline. This year's edition will also have a separate section focussing on case studies of select Indian and global cities. Also, the government is exploring new and innovative financial models to fund smart cities projects. Attention is also being paid to improving creditability of urban local bodies with the objective to attract private funding. The report aims to highlight these aspects under the financing and PPP potential chapters.
