LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Original Media Ventures today announced the launch of its content studio and consultancy, led by an all-female executive team of former film studio, advertising agency, and digital media executives. OMV focuses on connecting to the next generation of consumers through shared values of equality, creativity, and dignity for all. The company employs a fresh approach to engagement by developing and producing original and branded content within a unique, integrated-impact infrastructure, built for scalable opportunity creation for underrepresented creative voices.
OMV Founder and CEO Kathryn Schotthoefer previously served as the President of digital creative agency Heavenspot, known for its work with next-generation clients such as Netflix, Disney, FX, and Coachella. After seeing Heavenspot through an acquisition by M&C Saatchi in 2015, Ms. Schotthoefer left in late 2017 to start OMV with a completely new business model. OMV focuses on diversity and inclusion as part of the foundational fiber of their organization – with an intentionally female-led executive team, while developing content through untraditional paths to truly resonate with the next generation of consumers.
Ms. Schotthoefer said: “The world has long been ready for the content industry to start telling stories based on a much larger set of experiences, and we are thrilled to be partnering with brands, distributors, organizations, and creatives who want to be part of that movement. Women, people of color, and those without traditional access to the media industry deserve to tell their stories, to see themselves represented in content, and to be paid equally for their work.”
OMV is proud to be working with inaugural partners such as 21st Century Fox and National Geographic. Hitting the ground running, OMV is also developing a scripted anthology series showcasing the experiences of teen girls around the globe, as well as a digital series featuring the stories of PLUS1, a nonprofit that partners touring music artists from Arcade Fire to Zedd with grassroots organizations working on today’s most important issues.
In addition to Ms. Schotthoefer, former Heavenspot executives have joined the OMV team, including Katie Hutchings leading partnerships, Zoe Proser heading up design strategy, and Brittany Bishop leading OMV’s global emerging talent network. The OMV team also includes former Maker Studios marketing executive Emily Wynne-Hughes, who will be running all programming, and television veteran Kristi Dixon, who will head up production.
Ms. Bishop remarked: “There are incredible creative voices in every community and many may not have the access or the opportunity to translate their talent into a sustained creative career. They aren’t always the loudest voices, which is why we have invested in building methods to identify and collaborate with these creatives that are based in community, regardless of whether that community is downtown Detroit or a small town in Texas.”
