Michigan Great Lakes Virtual Academy Opens Enrollments for 2018-2019 School Year

Online Public School Expanding to Provide Career Prep Options for High School Students

MANISTEE, Mich.--()--Michigan Great Lakes Virtual Academy (MGLVA) welcomes families to enroll for the 2018-2019 school year. An online public charter school, MGLVA is open tuition-free to all students in Kindergarten through 12th grade who reside in the state. MGLVA combines online instruction, rigorous curriculum and the support of Michigan-licensed teachers to provide a personalized experience for each student.

Beginning in the 2018-2019 school year, high school students can explore Career Technical Education (CTE) course work through future careers MGLVA’s new Destinations program. Destinations will introduce students to specialty trade skills through online CTE courses in the areas of business management and administration, finance, marketing, and health sciences.

Combining career prep with MGLVA’s online platform will give our students a new outlook on future opportunities,” says Head of School Kendall Schroeder. “Whether they’re going to college or into the workforce, our technology and curriculum will set them up for success.”

In addition to the CTE course options, students are offered a full course load in the core subjects of math, science, English language arts, history, art and music. Electives include world languages, as well as high school honors and Advanced Placement® courses.

Students choose online school for a variety of reasons, including advanced learning, a bullying-free environment, and the ability to support extracurricular pursuits or medical needs. MGLVA’s online platform gives students the opportunity to pursue their academic goals in a supportive environment and at an appropriate pace for their learning style. To foster a sense of school community outside of the virtual classroom, MGLVA offers student clubs, in-person field trips and social gatherings, including an in-person graduation ceremony each spring.
