Maana Customers to Present in Three Agora Pod Sessions at CERAWeek 2018

Sessions Will Demonstrate How Energy Companies Are Accelerating Digitization With Maana’s AI-Driven Applications

PALO ALTO, Calif.--()--Maana, the pioneer of digital knowledge technology, today announced its customers will present in three Agora Pod sessions at CERAWeek. Agora Pod sessions are brief presentations, case studies, and interactive demonstrations of emerging technologies that impact the energy industry. Maana’s Agora Pod sessions will take place March 5-7 at CERAWeek at the Hilton Americas-Houston in Houston, Texas.

Maana was recognized by CERAWeek as a 2017 Energy Innovation Pioneer. The Maana Knowledge Platform™ enables industrial companies to encode human expertise and data from across silos into digital knowledge to help employees make better and faster decisions. Using the Maana Knowledge Platform, Fortune 500 industrial companies can quickly develop AI-driven Knowledge Applications that accelerate digitization.

At CERAWeek, Maana’s customers will highlight how they are using the Maana Knowledge Platform to optimize operations in the following sessions:

What: “How Shell is Using an Industry First Artificial Intelligence Crude Flexibility Application for Reducing Refinery Equipment Failure” will discuss how the Shell Crude Flexibility application uses knowledge models designed around crude oil types, crude chemical properties, refinery equipment, and processing risks, to help determine what corrosion risks a team should consider before processing a crude.
Who: Michael Verkruyse, director of customer delivery at Maana
When: Monday, March 5th, 2:30-3:00 p.m. CST
Where: Agora Pod 1-2

What: “Digital Upstream for Optimizing Life Cycle of Wells” will focus on how BHP uses the Maana knowledge graph designed specifically for the oil and gas industry to significantly improve the efficiency of planning new wells, optimizing existing wells and determining if old wells should be abandoned. The use case “Digital Upstream” has enabled BHP operators to create enhanced models that are designed to make crucial decisions that optimize the life cycle of wells.
Who: Jeff Dalgliesh, Director of oil & gas digitization at Maana, and Fernando De Mattos, head of technology shale and conventional petroleum, BHP
When: Tuesday, March 6th, 3:00-3:30 p.m. CST
Where: Agora Pod 1-2

What: “How Chevron is Using AI-Driven Knowledge Models for Piping Consolidation” will highlight how Chevron has leveraged AI and machine learning capabilities to automate the mapping and consolidation of over 5000 piping classes. The session will explain how a consolidation algorithm encodes the knowledge from piping and valve experts to provide recommendations for creating new standard classes of pipes, dramatically reducing the amount of time typically associated with such an activity. Finally, the session will underscore how “Engineering Knowledge Models” can play a central role in the industry as they lead to better designs and safer operations.
Who:

  • John O’Brien, head of R&D at Chevron ETC
  • Keith Johnston, team lead, Design COE, Chevron ETC
  • Esteban Montero, systems engineer, Chevron ETC
