BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Bitcoin Market Journal, in collaboration with WeWork Boston, announced today the historic launch of Genesis Block, an incubation and collaboration space for blockchain technology companies. Located at historic One Beacon Street, on Boston’s Freedom Trail, Genesis Block will serve as the nation’s East Coast hub for innovative blockchain companies.
Overlooking the golden dome of the Massachusetts State House, Genesis Block consists of more than a dozen blockchain companies, entrepreneurs, and investors, taking occupancy on the 15th floor of the magnificent office tower in beautiful Beacon Hill. Tours are available by appointment.
“The first block of a new blockchain project is called the ‘Genesis Block,’” explained John Hargrave, publisher of Bitcoin Market Journal, a website for blockchain investors. “It’s the seed that grows into a mighty tree. It seemed like the perfect name for our historic group of blockchain pioneers.”
Indeed, Genesis Block is surrounded by American history: just down the street is the Granary Ground, the resting place of John Hancock, Samuel Adams, and Paul Revere. Directly across the street from Genesis Block is King’s Chapel, the first Anglican church in New England. Every day, throngs of tourists will walk past Genesis Block on Boston’s historic Freedom Trail tour.
“The blockchain represents a new kind of freedom,” said Bryan Feinberg, founder of blockchain consultancy EtheraLabs. “It is freedom from government intrusion, freedom from large corporations owning our data. It is right and fitting that the blockchain revolution is intertwined with the birthplace of the American Revolution.”
Bitcoin, the best-known blockchain technology, has fascinated investors since increasing in value from $400 in December 2016 to more than $13,000 one year later: a 3,000% increase. It has spawned a wave of new blockchain projects, including hundreds of cryptocurrencies and so-called Initial Coin Offerings, or ICOs.
In addition to Bitcoin Market Journal and EtheraLabs, Genesis Block’s anchor companies include blockchain lab Level K, blockchain real estate firm Real Estate Chain, blockchain community organizers CoCreateX, and blockchain marketing firm Media Shower. They will hold free weekly meetups to educate the public on the use of blockchain in government, education, and investing.
Genesis Block also joins a growing national trend of innovative incubators working collaboratively in shared workspaces, and attracting the largest corporations who are seeking out similar coworking communities in search of great talent, partnerships, and acquisitions, particularly in the blockchain space.
