Silicon STEM Academy Launches New Spring Break Camps to Help Students Find Their Passion in Technology

DENVER--()--While some Colorado families plan on taking a vacation over their Spring Break, others will use the opportunity to send their students to STEM camps at Silicon STEM Academy. (STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) Silicon STEM Academy will hold Spring Break Camps March 26–30, 2018, coinciding with several Denver-area school districts’ breaks. These include fun and educational camps in daily or week-long options in subjects such as coding, LEGO robotics, game design, simple machines, engineering, science, and more.

STEM Spring Break Camps are a part of a growing trend among parents who prefer to take advantage of school breaks to expose their students to the technology skills that are not readily available in Colorado schools. This is because the well-paid jobs of the future increasingly require technology skills. Computing occupations are projected to make up two thirds of all new jobs in the future, yet Colorado’s universities produced only 785 computer science grads in 2015. Exposure to STEM education at an earlier age is part of the key to closing this gap and will help to jumpstart a child’s future in technology.

“We know that students who learn to code and gain technical skills in middle and high school are six times more likely to major in computer science in college, yet only 26% of Colorado schools offer meaningful computer science courses,” said Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Silicon STEM Academy, John Scarborough.

Silicon STEM Academy, a Denver-based STEM enrichment education provider, was ranked as the #1 Academic Enrichment and #1 STEM Camp by Colorado Parent Magazine readers in 2017. They specialize in teaching critical technology and computing skills essential to survival and success in the 21st century, with courses in computer programming, engineering, robotics, digital media and game design.
