Columbia University Graduate School of Business in Conjunction with Gabelli Funds Names Christopher C. Stavrou 2018 Recipient of Graham & Dodd, Murray, Greenwald Prize

RYE, N.Y.--()--Gabelli Funds announces the recipient of the Graham & Dodd, Murray, Greenwald Prize for Value Investing to be presented at its thirty-third client conference on Friday, May 18th in New York. He is Christopher C. Stavrou of Stavrou Partners.

Bruce Greenwald, the Robert Heilbrunn Professor of Finance and Asset Management and the academic Director of the Heilbrunn Center for Graham & Dodd Investing said in nominating Mr. Stavrou, “Chris’s contributions to the field of value investing over the past nearly 40 years are significant. As a long term practitioner of value investing and an active shareholder of Berkshire, he is one of those investors who kept the flame of value investing alive during the dark years.”

Christopher C. Stavrou, Founder and General Partner of Stavrou Partners, L. P., runs a family office in New York . Chris began his career as a security analyst, initially at AG Becker & Co. and later at Evans & Co. After purchasing shares of Blue Chip Stamps (subsequently merged into Berkshire Hathaway), he adopted the value investing approach of Ben Graham. Mr. Stavrou did his undergraduate studies at Rutgers University ('65) and subsequently, finance at the Wharton Graduate School at the University of Pennsylvania ( '67). Chris received the Arthur M. Sackler Award for his contributions to the arts in Connecticut and the Lehman College Award for Business, Cultural, and Civic Leadership. Chris was formerly Chairman of the Friends of Leonard Cheshire, a disabilities organization.

Gabelli created the annual prize to honor an individual, student, or practitioner who has made an outstanding contribution to enlarge the field of value investing. Known as the “Gabelli Prize”, the company funded the prize with $1 million and presents the award at its annual client meetings.
