SACRAMENTO, Calif. & SAN DIEGO & SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--California Life Sciences Association (CLSA), the trade association representing California’s life sciences industry, honored three California state legislators as Life Sciences Champions during its Back to Session Reception in Sacramento that took place on February 7.
Senator Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel), Assemblymember Rob Bonta (D-Alameda) and Assemblymember Heath Flora (R-Modesto) were each presented with CLSA’s “2017 Life Sciences Champion Award” for their leadership and dedication to advancing biotechnology, biomedical science, pharmaceutical and medical device innovation in California in 2017.
“Senator Patricia Bates and Assemblymembers Rob Bonta and Heath Flora have demonstrated a commitment to championing public policy that spurs biomedical innovation, leading to a healthier population in California and around the world,” said CLSA President & CEO Sara Radcliffe. “On behalf of California’s life sciences sector – a community employing nearly 300,000 Californians – we are pleased to recognize these distinguished legislators for their leadership, which has been instrumental in nurturing California’s treasured life sciences sector.”
As vice chair of the appropriations committee, Senator Bates spearheaded efforts in the Senate to protect life sciences innovation in California. Assemblymember Bonta was instrumental in creating policies to protect patients, and Assemblymember Flora advocated for STEM education and access to quality care, particularly in rural communities.
