FORT MILL, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--CompuCom Systems, Inc. (“CompuCom®”), a leading provider of managed digital workplace services that is now part of Office Depot, Inc., today announced the company is lending its support to Bright Blessings®, a local non-profit dedicated to helping homeless and impoverished children in the greater Charlotte, NC metro area.
According to a 2014 Harvard study, Charlotte ranks lowest in social mobility, meaning that poor children in Charlotte are less likely to escape poverty than those in other large U.S. cities. The mission of Bright Blessings is to bring joy, care and hope to local homeless and impoverished children by mobilizing community volunteers of all ages.
“Bright Blessings is thrilled to work together with CompuCom, as we are funded and supported solely by our community partners. Only through the support of the community are we able to serve over 10,000 homeless and impoverished children in the Greater Charlotte region,” said Hannah Easter, Education and Advancement Associate at Bright Blessings. “We are extremely grateful for the CompuCom team’s efforts to positively impact the Charlotte community and help so many children in need.”
CompuCom is sponsoring and creating 1,000 snack packs and 1,000 hygiene kits that will help Bright Blessings serve children in the local community. As part of CompuCom’s annual sales conference, held this week in the company’s Fort Mill, SC headquarters, Sales and Solutions teams are volunteering time today to assemble snack packs and kits. These will be sent to 22 Union County and Charlotte-Mecklenburg County public schools to stock the Care Cupboards at those schools. The Care Cupboards enable teachers and other school staff access to a snack supply and basic hygiene items for their students, many of whom are impoverished or homeless, and would otherwise not have access to these basic needs.
“We’re relatively new to the area and it’s important to our team that we do our part to help organizations such as Bright Blessings make a difference in the local community,” noted CompuCom Chief Product Officer Ken Jackowitz. “Our associates are excited to team up with Bright Blessings to help improve the lives of local kids.”
About Bright Blessings
Bright Blessings first began in 2005 as a monthly birthday program for children staying at the Salvation Army Center of Hope in Charlotte, North Carolina. The organization's founders, John and Amy Cervantes, wanted to help brighten the lives of needy children while also instilling a love and commitment for community service in their own young children. For nearly three years, the Cervantes family threw birthday celebrations every month for hundreds of homeless children at the Center, adding educational and enrichment activities to their program and also providing the kids with gifts, new books and basic care essentials.
In March of 2008, the family decided to incorporate their program as a not-for-profit charity with a twofold mission of engaging volunteers of all ages to help brighten the lives of needy children across the greater Charlotte metro area. Today, Bright Blessings remains a volunteer-led organization that will impact more than 10,000 homeless and impoverished children this year through its core programs, Bless-A-Birthday, Bless-A-Baby, Gift of Literacy and Gift of Care. Bright Blessings is a registered 501c3 nonprofit organization.
