Corey Danko Gibbs Fire Lawyers Sues Southern California Edison on Behalf of Thomas Fire Victims

Lawsuit Alleges that Southern California Edison’s Failure to Maintain Equipment Caused the Fires, Which Devastated Nearly 300,000 Acres in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties

VENTURA, Calif.--()--Corey, Luzaich, de Ghetaldi & Riddle, Danko Meredith and Gibbs Law Group, a coalition of California law firms known as Corey Danko Gibbs Fire Lawyers, filed a lawsuit in Ventura County yesterday on behalf of fire survivors who suffered injuries and lost their homes and/or land as a result of the Thomas Fire, which began in December 2017. The lawsuit alleges, among other things, that SCE was negligent in failing to properly inspect and maintain its electrical equipment and power lines, which ultimately caused the Thomas fire to ignite in two separate locations.

Specifically, the victims assert that SCE broke the law in the way it constructed, inspected, repaired and maintained its power lines and electrical equipment, and that it was foreseeable given the heightened wildfire threat, strong Santa Ana winds, and effects of a long California drought, that such a fire was likely. Given the heightened risk and SCE’s awareness, plaintiffs assert that the company should have safeguarded its infrastructure.

“Corey Danko Gibbs Fire Lawyers has successfully taken on some of the nation’s largest utilities in wildfire cases,” said Ventura-based attorney and Thomas Fire victim Brian Osborne, “Our community deserves the strongest advocates to fight for us. I have personally seen them in action and trust them to represent my own interests, as well as my clients and our community.”

“The people of Ventura and Santa Barbara counties who lost their homes and land as a result of these fires deserve justice,” said Mike Danko of Danko Meredith. “SCE was entrusted to provide electrical services and ensure safety for the community, and it failed. The company must be held accountable for the devastation it has caused.”
