DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The town of Eaton, Colorado, ranks the third safest community in Colorado (SafeWise Report: The 20 Safest cities in Colorado—2017). 2017 is the second consecutive year it has achieved this distinction. With recent website enhancements, Eaton is keeping safety a top priority. “As one of Colorado’s safest places to live, we demonstrate the main criteria—a commitment to the well-being of our citizens,” says Assistant Town Administrator, Jeff Schreier. Schreier utilizes the website to instruct citizens about how to request police reports, view the police blotter, check the Sex Offender Registry and report street light outages. The website also keeps citizens up-to-date on the US85 Resurfacing Project from Eaton to Ault, which will improve the highway’s safety.
A website serving as a go-to-source for critical news is primarily due to a municipality’s ability to add content on demand. Schreier explains, “Technology isn’t my background, but it became my responsibility. I’ve learned as much as I can to create time and cost efficiencies.” He credits Colorado Interactive (CI) and the Statewide Internet Portal Authority’s (SIPA) easy-to-use platform and online training materials with helping get a fast handle on the project. “I’m busy. I was able to get quite a bit done in the little bits of time that I had because of how easy it was. The process never stretched me too thin.”
CI provides digital government services to state agencies and local governments through a contract with SIPA—the official internet portal connecting the public with Colorado governments. The partnership’s mission allows government leaders to focus on delivering on-demand, digital government solutions without requests for proposals or the use of tax appropriations. The CI/SIPA partnership has benefited more than 75 municipalities (cities, towns, villages, etc.) of all sizes throughout Colorado.
"Regardless of a government’s size, the reliability and security of accessing critical information through a municipality’s website is a standard expectation from citizens,” says Colorado Interactive’s President and General Manager, Fred Sargeson. "The town of Eaton’s website is a great example of local government utilizing online communication to ensure the safety of its citizens.”
Municipalities in need of free website development and hosting as well as payment processing through the Colorado.gov Web portal should contact SIPA.
