Mercer US Attains EDGE Assess Certification for Gender Equality in the Workplace

  • Joins Mercer’s UK operations as one of the first 10 companies to obtain this certification
  • Economic Dividends for Gender Equality (EDGE) is the leading global assessment methodology and business certification standard for gender equality

NEW YORK--()--Mercer, a global consulting leader in advancing health, wealth and career, and a wholly owned subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan Companies (NYSE: MMC), has obtained the first level of EDGE certification for its US business, following the certification in the UK late last year. Overall more than 170 organizations worldwide have engaged with the EDGE methodology.

EDGE is the leading global assessment methodology and business certification standard for gender equality. The independent certification follows a rigorous methodology to analyze companies’ current gender equality status and suggest areas of improvement and development. EDGE conducted a comprehensive review of Mercer’s policies, practices and data, and surveyed all company staff across the US. As a result, EDGE confirmed that both Mercer US and Mercer UK are above average and more gender balanced when compared against each of its peer groups – both commercial and professional services companies, worldwide. In both the US and the UK, Mercer has been certified at the Assess level, which demonstrates that Mercer has fostered an inclusive workplace culture between male and female colleagues, proactively managed gender pay equity, and effectively implemented gender equality policies and practices.

“At Mercer, we believe everyone deserves equal opportunity for development and growth and our EDGE certification shows that we take our commitment to gender diversity and inclusion seriously,” said Ken Haderer, President, North America. “As an organization that promotes strategies like ‘When Women Thrive’, we plan to “walk the walk” when it comes to our work around gender diversity and advancing women in the workforce.”

Aniela Unguresan, Co-Founder EDGE Certified Foundation, commented: “Mercer is a great example of authentic commitment and organizational alignment as highlighted in its own ‘When Women Thrive’ research. It is clear from leaders and colleagues in the company who walk the walk and understand the link to business success and sustainable change.”

About EDGE Certification

EDGE is the leading global assessment methodology and business certification standard for gender equality. The EDGE assessment methodology was developed by the EDGE Certified Foundation and launched at the World Economic Forum in 2011. EDGE Certification has been designed to help companies not only create an optimal workplace for women and men, but also benefit from it. EDGE stands for Economic Dividends for Gender Equality and is distinguished by its rigor and focus on business impact. The methodology uses a business rather than theoretical approach that incorporates benchmarking, metrics, and accountability into the process. It assesses policies, practices, and numbers across five different areas of analysis: equal pay for equivalent work, recruitment and promotion, leadership development training and mentoring, flexible working, and company culture. EDGE Certification has received the endorsement of business, government, and academic leaders from around the world. For more information, visit http://www.edge-cert.org
