Dudek, Leading California Environmental Consulting Firm, Names New President

ENCINITAS, Calif.--()--Dudek announced that Joe Monaco has been named president of the 400-person environmental and engineering consulting firm specializing in natural resource management and infrastructure planning and design. Monaco assumes the role from Frank Dudek, who served as the firm’s only president since founding the company in 1980. Dudek stays on as chief executive officer and chairman of the employee-owned firm, one of the largest environmental consulting firms headquartered in California.

Monaco, 53, has been with Dudek for 18 years and previously served as executive vice president and environmental division director. He is a leading national expert on environmental permitting for seawater desalination plants and a leading California expert on large-scale regional habitat conservation planning.

Monaco managed the environmental permitting for the Carlsbad, CA seawater desalination plant, the largest operational desalination facility in the United States. In 2015, he spoke at the White House Conference on Water Innovation about the costs of environmental permitting for water infrastructure.

“What matters most to me is leveraging my new role to support the people who deliver quality work and excellent client service,” Monaco said. “Our culture is based on trust and accountability, and that has resulted in a high level of quality and reliability that our clients depend upon and expect.”

“Joe has had a remarkable career at Dudek,” said Frank Dudek. “He has successfully overseen many of our largest projects and driven business growth in new geographies and new sectors, such as renewable energy, transportation, and seawater desalination.

“His promotion is a significant part of our transition to a second generation of leaders from within the firm who understand our trust-based culture and client-focused values,” Dudek continued. “In addition to our leadership transition, we are executing a seamless ownership transition that will allow us to remain an independent, employee-owned firm.”

Monaco holds a Master of City Planning degree from San Diego State University and a Bachelor’s degree in geography from UCLA. He is registered with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
