SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--IP Infusion, a leader in disaggregated networking solutions, announced today that it supports the hardware design of the “Cassini” packet transponder, developed by Edgecore Networks®, the leader in open networking, with other industry partners. Cassini offers a whitebox solution for data center interconnect and service provider use cases, which supports the OcNOS™ disaggregated switching software from IP Infusion.
Edgecore Networks contributed to the hardware design for the Cassini packet transponder for the Open Optical Packet Transport project group in Telecom Infra Project (TIP). Cassini is the industry’s highest capacity and first modular whitebox packet transponder to offer a flexible mix of 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) packet switching ports and 100/200 Gbps coherent optical interfaces for metro and long-haul connections.
“With the explosion in data center traffic, enterprises need to interconnect geographically dispersed locations to scale applications and take care of high availability and redundancy demands,” said Atsushi Ogata, President and CEO of IP Infusion. “By offering our OcNOS network operating system on Edgecore’s Cassini packet transponder, our data center and service provider customers can integrate packet switching and optical transport technology and handle increased demands on their open network, disaggregated networks.”
The OcNOS network operating system, combined with the Edgecore platform, extends virtualized services between sites; increases total capacity both inside and between locations; and enhances network resilience. With the ability to adopt cloud-scale economic solutions, enterprises can easily extend and migrate existing metro and long-haul Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) networks to add new 100G capacities, and extend inter-DC L2 and L3 services.
The Cassini packet transponder is a 1.5RU form factor with system throughput of 3.2Tbps based on Broadcom StrataXGS™ Tomahawk™ Plus switch silicon. The Cassini design offers 16 fixed 100 Gigabit Ethernet QSFP28 ports, plus eight line card slots to incorporate a flexible mix of additional 100GbE ports or ACO/DCO optical ports based on coherent DSP and optical transceivers from leading optical technology partners.
