NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Acker Merrall & Condit, the world’s leading wine auctioneer, has announced plans to use its upcoming auction of fine and rare wines as a fundraiser for Northern California’s wine country as it confronts devastating wildfires. The live auction will take place on Friday, October 13th, 2017 in New York City. In addition to donating a portion of proceeds from the auction, Acker will donate a portion of proceeds from its October online auction and retail sales.
The funds will be directed to relief efforts in Napa and Sonoma Counties, communities Acker has known for decades. “The people who live and work in Northern California’s wine country are near and dear to us as America’s oldest wine retailer -- they’re our partners, our friends and part of our wine family, and we want to support them during this heartbreaking time,” explained John Kapon, Chairman of Acker Merrall & Condit and the third generation of his family to run the company. “By announcing our intent to use Friday’s auction and this month’s online sales as a fundraiser, we hope everyone, including our clients and friends across the wine industry, will join us in contributing to the relief effort,” he added.
The auction, composed of nearly 1150 lots, features two particularly special consignments containing cult California powerhouses Screaming Eagle, Harlan, Hundred Acre, Abreu, Colgin, Dalla Valle, Peter Michael and more among its standard offerings of old world greats.
Friday’s auction will be held at Zuma, 261 Madison Avenue, at 4:00 PM. To participate in the auction, interested parties can e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or visit www.ackerwines.com. To donate directly to relief efforts, Acker recommends visiting American Red Cross (www.redcross.org) and Bay Area charities including United Way of the Wine Country (www.unitedwaywinecountry.org).
