The top three revenue-generating end-user segments of the global carbonated beverage processing equipment market are discussed below:

Sugar dissolvers

Sugar dissolvers are used to prepare sugar syrup, which is the base ingredient in carbonated beverages. It is more economical for carbonated beverage manufacturers to use sugar syrup, which produced by dissolving sugar using sugar dissolvers than to use readymade liquid sugar. This is one of the key factors that will influence the growth of the market for sugar dissolvers during the forecast period.

According to Manjunath Reddy, a lead food services research analyst from Technavio, “Dry sugar that has to be dissolved is stored in silos or bulk bag formats. Sugar syrup is prepared using sugar dissolving tanks, and the concentration is measured in degree Brix. In the process, dry sugar is fed into the dissolving tank using a screw feeder. Heated water at 140°F is fed into the tank; the quantity of the water depends on the amount of dry sugar added.”

Carbonation equipment

Carbonation is the process of adding carbon dioxide to water under pressure to make it fizzy. It is one of the most important steps in carbonated drink manufacturing, and carbonation equipment is used to carry out this step.

“The method of fine spraying of water into a carbon dioxide atmosphere is used for batch processes. The water will be sprayed into an atmosphere containing carbon dioxide inside a pressurized vessel. The absorption will be higher if water surface area exposed to carbon dioxide is more. Specially designed nozzles are used in carbonation equipment to increase the efficiency of carbonation,” adds Manjunath.

Heat exchangers

Heat exchangers are widely used for carbonated beverage processing. They are used in most stages during processing such as heating, cooling, pasteurizing, and others. Heat exchangers are used to transfer heat between a solid and liquid or between two liquids. The liquids will be separated by a wall to prevent mixing.

Various types such as tubular heat exchangers and plate heat exchangers are available. Among these, plate heat exchangers are widely used for carbonated beverage processing. They have a compact design and a high regenerative capacity. They contain separated plates and have large surface area and small liquid passage for heat. Plate heat exchangers are mainly used for low-viscosity beverages without fibers. Tubular heat exchangers are mainly used for high-viscosity beverages without fibers.

The top vendors highlighted by Technavio’s research analysts in this report are:
