LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The D.C. Department of Corrections has implemented the medication management system ACCUflo, a vital and trusted go-to, point-of-care solution for its incarcerated population. Creative Strategies, a leading innovator of medication and care management software technology, developed ACCUflo for use among assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing communities, long-term care pharmacies and correctional institutions.
ACCUflo is an intuitive, electronic medication administration record (eMAR) system. The system tracks every step in the medication administration process. It simplifies caregivers’ duties and workflow by allowing easy and safe access to residents’ medical records, medication and treatments. The system supports barcode scanning of medication packages to confirm proper resident, drug, dosage, and give time prior to administration while notifying caregivers when medication or treatments are due. ACCUflo tracks when, and by whom, the medication is accessed while reporting, in real time, back to the pharmacy for a streamlined approach that reduces manual paperwork while saving time and money.
The D.C. Department of Corrections has been using the ACCUflo medication management software for more than a year. The key objective of the D.C. Department of Corrections in choosing ACCUflo was to successfully streamline inefficient and costly workflow while also enhancing clinical procedures and compliance at both the Central Detention Facility and the Central Treatment Facility. In total, the population being served is approximately 1,000.
“ACCUflo gives us assurance that we are providing the safest possible medication administration process for our inmates,” said Dr. Beth Mynett, Medical Director for the D.C. Department of Corrections. “We specifically chose ACCUflo because it was already well-proven in comparable correctional settings and we had high confidence the Creative Strategies team would help us achieve valuable efficiency and cost improvements.”
Dispensed orders are accurately communicated to correctional nurses through ACCUflo’s integration with pharmacy management systems. Pharmacies can then provide the D.C. Department of Corrections with reliable data that identifies discontinued orders, ensures expired medication is properly handled and controlled drugs are accounted for and not diverted.
"We are justly proud the D.C. Department of Corrections has chosen ACCUflo as their go-to solution for managing point-of-care administration of medication to their inmate population,” said John Carroll, President and Founder of Creative Strategies. “We share a commitment with the D.C. Department of Corrections in achieving clinical excellence while also improving work flow, reducing costs and limiting liability across their sizable correctional operations.”
