SAN MATEO, Calif.--()--Augmented Reality (AR) pioneer Meta announced that venture capital guru Joseph (Joe) Mikhail has joined the company as its new Chief Revenue Officer. In addition to driving corporate incubation, technology spinouts and corporate venture capital (CVC) programs, Mikhail is an entrepreneur who has successfully founded and directed several software startups. He joins Meta from Lenovo, where he identified ground-breaking technologies and established strategic equity investments as the Director of Worldwide Open Innovation.

“I’m excited to join the Meta team where I believe my experience in deploying effective go-to-market strategies for disruptive technologies can further strengthen Meta’s effort in getting its product to market at a large scale,” said Mikhail, who continues to help businesses fund and launch as a partner at Moxie Capital.

Meta CEO Meron Gribetz said, “Joe has proven his passion and expertise in building ecosystems and successfully taking cutting-edge technology to the market to transform a company’s value. We are excited for the contribution that Joe is sure to make as part of the Meta team.”

Before his stint at Lenovo, Mikhail helped create and lead the CVC program at Flextronics, where he also co-founded and led internal incubation and innovation efforts, generating a successful joint venture, Jamdeo, and a SaaS spinout, Elementum, among many other programs. Previously, Mikhail held executive management roles in corporate strategy at Flextronics and Avery Dennison, as well as in the successful development and sale of Dandem Corporation, a software reliability company where he was CEO. Mikhail holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of California, Irvine.

In December 2016 Meta began shipping to select individual and enterprise developers its Meta 2 Development Kit, which delivers a totally immersive experience unlike any other AR product to date. Meta 2 enables people to use their hands to interact with holograms so they can touch, grab, create, and share digital content. The technology holds promise in application to numerous markets, including product and building design, education, workplace productivity, manufacturing, and medicine.

About Meta

Born in NYC and raised in Silicon Valley, Meta has been defining the field of AR since the company’s inception in 2012. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, Meta was selected by Y Combinator (YC13) for seed funding. Meta entered the marketplace with the first see-through glasses that allowed wearers to move and manipulate 3D content intuitively, using natural hand interactions. With the introduction of the groundbreaking Meta 2 product at TED 2016, Meta is once again redefining the market and delivering a new generation of Natural Machines™ that will become a healthy, vital extension of who we are.
