ALEXANDRIA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Robert Coward, MPR Principal Officer, assumes his role as American Nuclear Society’s (ANS) President during today’s Annual ANS Meeting, held in San Francisco, CA. Nominated by a committee of industry leaders, Mr. Coward was elected by a vote of ANS membership during last year’s annual meeting, where he then began his one-year term as Vice President/President-Elect.
“Serving as ANS President-Elect for the past year has been a great experience,” Mr. Coward said. “It has been an honor working alongside former President Andy Klein and other ANS leaders. I look forward to further collaboration with ANS leadership and other leaders in the nuclear energy community. ANS provides its members and industry with important benefits, and nuclear energy provides the nation with tremendous value. I’m excited to be leading and influencing the direction forward.”
ANS was established nearly 65 years ago by a group of individuals who recognized the need to unify professional activities within the various fields of nuclear science and technology. ANS serves as a not-for-profit, international, scientific and educational organization, whose membership is composed of approximately 11,000 engineers, scientists, administrators, and educators.
“Bob Coward’s breadth of knowledge and experience within the nuclear industry is a perfect fit to lead ANS,” Robert Carritte, MPR Principal Officer said. “He is a strategic thinker and real leader, one who puts energy and passion into the things he takes on; that is why I am confident that all of the ANS community will benefit under his tenure.”
Mr. Coward joined MPR in 1983, from Duke University, and has been an MPR Principal Officer since 2009. Previously, he was the Director of MPR’s Nuclear Services Group, responsible for the overall direction and management of MPR’s services provided to the domestic and international nuclear industries. The emphasis of Mr. Coward's work has been in the areas of project management, new nuclear power plant development, regulatory affairs, and safety analysis.
