Alfresco Achieves AWS Education Competency Status

Alfresco Makes Document Management and Cloud-Based Collaboration Easy for Educational Leaders Around the World

SAN MATEO, Calif.--()--A leader in content and process automation in the enterprise, Alfresco Software announced today that it has achieved Amazon Web Services (AWS) Education Competency status. This designation recognizes that Alfresco has demonstrated technical proficiency and proven success building solutions that support mission-critical workloads of Higher Education, K-12 Primary/Secondary, Research and Publishing customers.

Achieving the AWS Education Competency differentiates Alfresco as an AWS Partner Network (APN) member that has delivered proven customer success providing specialized solutions aligning with AWS’s architectural best practices to support the academic experience of teachers and learners and/or improve the operational needs of administrators. To receive the designation, Amazon Partner Network (APN) Partners must possess deep AWS expertise and undergo an assessment of the security, performance, and reliability of their solutions.

“Alfresco is proud to be one of the first APN partners to achieve AWS Education Competency status,” said Bob Crissman, Vice President of Global Channel Program and Sales. “Alfresco and AWS have helped many public sector organizations, including educational institutions, rapidly gain value from modernizing their process and content management by using our open-source, scalable, and flexible platforms.”

AWS is enabling scalable, flexible, and cost-effective solutions from startups to global enterprises. To support the seamless integration and deployment of these solutions, AWS established the AWS Competency Program to help customers identify Consulting and Technology APN Partners with deep industry experience and expertise.

It is imperative for educational institutions to have a centralized content management strategy and system given the volume and various types of content they are required to manage daily. Identifying a platform that is easy to implement and use, and fits their budget are often key criteria. Alfresco on AWS provides an open, flexible, and highly scalable platform with capabilities to manage and distribute education materials, textbooks, trainings, videos and interactive online exams to K-12, higher education, professional and library markets worldwide.

Solutions for Global Collaboration

Alfresco and AWS customer, Teach For All is a global non-profit focused on addressing educational inequity in their nation’s high-need classrooms. They provide partner organizations with expert advice on everything from how to recruit teachers and build a business plan to best practices on fundraising and building a successful alumni network. But as the organization continues to expand – growing from 11 organizations to more than 30 in just five years – much of this knowledge became challenging to keep track.

“Most platforms we looked at tended to have a per user licensing agreement, which is unsustainable for us given our plans for a rapidly growing user base, especially as a nonprofit,” according to the senior director of information technology at Teach For All. “We liked the open source aspect of Alfresco and its ability to be customized, but it was also extremely user-friendly and easy to use out of the box.”

Teach For All shares limited office space with other organizations, which meant they don’t possess server rooms, so a cloud-based solution was also a must.

“Our CRM and data management are all cloud-based and everything else is hosted on Amazon Web Services, which is where Alfresco is now,” said Teach For All. “While cost was definitely a factor, it had to be easy to use. AWS is something we are familiar with and is flexible and easy enough for our internal IT team to pick up quickly.”
