APPLETON, Wis. & BRAINERD, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mills Fleet Farm, a Midwestern, value-based retailer of lifestyle merchandise serving active, outdoor families and suburban and farm consumers, today announced the appointment of Derick Prelle as President and Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”), succeeding Wayne Sales, who has been serving as Interim CEO since January 2017.
Derick Prelle joins Mills Fleet Farm from KKR Capstone where, as Managing Partner - Americas, he ran KKR Capstone’s Retail and Consumer Operations Group over the past decade. After KKR announced its acquisition of Mills Fleet Farm in January 2016, Mr. Prelle had the opportunity to work closely with the company in his role working with KKR’s portfolio companies. Mr. Prelle also has significant experience working in the retail sector from his role as an Associate Partner in McKinsey & Company’s Retail and Consumer practice. In these two capacities, he has led significant transformation efforts at companies including Dollar General, National Vision, Del Monte, Big Heart Pet, Channel Control Merchants and several other retail and consumer goods companies.
“Every day since I first started working with Mills Fleet Farm over a year ago, I’ve found myself continuing to be more and more excited to be a part of the Mills Fleet Farm story – one of an authentic brand, an incredibly differentiated concept, an exceptional leadership team and customer loyalty that spans generations,” said Derick Prelle. “I am both honored and humbled to have the opportunity to lead such a special company, and appreciate the responsibility that comes with carrying and building upon the legacy Mills Fleet Farm has built over more than 60 years.”
Effective upon today’s announcement, Wayne Sales will return to Mills Fleet Farm’s Board of Directors and serve as a Special Advisor to the company’s management team.
“It has been such an honor to lead Mills Fleet Farm on an interim basis for the last six months. I’ve seen firsthand the strength of the team, the brand and the value proposition it offers customers. I could not think of someone more fitting to lead Mills Fleet Farm on its journey for growth than Derick, and I look forward to partnering with him and the rest of the team as I remain a part of the Mills Fleet Farm family,” said Wayne Sales.
