NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Univision Communications Inc., the leading media company serving Hispanic America, announced plans for the sixth annual broadcast of TeletonUSA, to air live for 32 hours on the Univision Network beginning Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT). Under the theme “Estamos Unidos” (We Are United), TeletonUSA will simulcast for the first time with Teleton Mexico; while production and fundraising will be managed separately, the programs will include a two-hour simulcast. TeletonUSA 2017 will include live segments from Plaza Mexico in Los Angeles, and will return to New York’s iconic Times Square.
“TeletonUSA was inspired by Teleton Mexico’s extraordinary efforts to promote community support for children with disabilities and their families,” said Randy Falco, CEO of Univision Communications Inc. “So it’s particularly fitting that this year the Univision and Televisa telecasts are aligned on the same dates and with an unprecedented two-hour simulcast to reinforce our solidarity with efforts to create a more inclusive world for all children.”
“Hope can only emerge from devotion,” said Fernando Landeros, president of the Teleton Mexico Foundation and TeletonUSA Foundation. “Let’s not try to change Mexico; let’s try to serve Mexico in order to change it. I’m convinced that the rebirth of this country can only happen with heart and from the heart. Stepping forward means turning anger into a proposal; it’s going from comfortable doubt to a definite proposition, and I’m sure that serving Mexico is the best way to take a stand. This year, during our telethon, we must show what we’ve learned from the children. What’s the lesson? That there are no obstacles, that human will is the only obstacle capable of reining us in.”
Added Televisa President Emilio Azcárraga: “We must focus on what’s important, the lessons offered each day by each child who goes into a Telethon Center, with a problem that is infinitely bigger than any we may have. Those lessons make you strive every day to do good. Those lessons are what makes us come together for them.”
As in prior years, the focus will be on young people helped by the generosity of viewers’ donations. During the telecast, celebrities will share uplifting stories of children treated at CRIT-USA, which is supported by TeletonUSA and provides physical, psychological, social and spiritual support to both patients and families.
Another TeletonUSA constant over the years has been the presence of top names from Univision and the world of Hispanic entertainment, who volunteer their time to host and perform at the event. The show will feature over 40 musical performances, some of which will be broadcast from CRIT-USA in San Antonio.
TeletonUSA is committed to helping children of all backgrounds with neurological and musculoskeletal disorders regardless of their families’ financial situation. To date, the annual fundraiser has raised over $61 million to support that mission, including $15,761,984 last year alone.
