SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In response to the President’s announcement on withdrawing the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement, Jerry Secundy, President and CEO of the California Council for Environmental and Economic Balance (CCEEB) issued the following statement today:
“California is presented a great opportunity to fill the leadership vacuum created by the President’s withdrawal from the landmark Paris Agreement. California has been and is a leader in the fight against Climate Change and now is the perfect time to reassert its leadership position to continue to drive down greenhouse gas emission reductions while protecting citizens and jobs from undue cost pressures. As an example, a well-designed and extended Cap-and-Trade Program that can link to other states or nations in a collaborative effort to combat climate change while providing economic protections and supporting low-cost greenhouse gas emission reductions is a critical part of this effort. Lack of national leadership does not mean that California can rest on its laurels. We must continue the fight for our future generations.”
CCEEB is a non-profit, non-partisan association of business, labor, and public leaders, which advances balanced policies for a strong economy and a healthy environment.
