PHILADELPHIA--()--At the start of Philly Beer Week, an all-new, uniquely fashioned urban beer garden, “Fishtown Hops,” has been planted in Philadelphia.

Located on the riverwalk directly behind SugarHouse Casino, Fishtown Hops will provide an outdoor waterfront sanctuary with breathtaking views of the Ben Franklin Bridge. A selection of local brews and craft cocktails will be available, along with a brand-new menu specifically created for Fishtown Hops. The doors to this summer destination open Thursday, June 22, at 4 p.m., and parking is free.

The new space was designed by Philly’s own Groundswell Design Group, the creative force behind Talula’s Garden and La Peg at FringeArts. Groundswell was also instrumental in the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation’s creation of Spruce Street Harbor Park. Fishtown Hops is Groundswell’s latest incarnation of outdoor dining in one of the city’s hubs for innovative dining experiences — Fishtown.

“We are excited to be a part of yet another waterfront attraction for the community — an organic, authentic feel that caters to craft beer drinkers in an outdoor setting,” said David Fierabend, owner of Groundswell Design Group.

Fishtown Hops’ hours of operation are Wednesday and Thursday from 4-10 p.m., Fridays from 4 p.m.-2 a.m., Saturdays from noon-2 a.m. and Sundays from noon-8 p.m. throughout the summer. Seating accommodates approximately 150 guests, with no reservations required. Happy hours with half-price pitchers occur daily from 5-7 p.m.

“We already know Philly loves a beer garden – we’ve just combined the best beers and dishes with free parking and a river view,” said Wendy Hamilton, general manager at SugarHouse Casino. “The Groundswell creative team is outdoing itself as it transforms our backyard into a lush, cozy, urban hideaway — everything you’d want in a Philadelphia beer garden.”

The Haps on the Hops

Fishtown Hops is a charming haven with an array of rustic, shabby-chic furnishings, blending natural and industrial elements. Beer lovers can access the oasis via the walkway along the south side of SugarHouse Casino between the porte cochere and the valet parking lot.

The beer garden’s decor features distressed wood cladding and partitions, zinc-wrapped bars and counters, cable wire railings and single-bulb pendant lighting. The landscaping accentuates the location, where guests can dine at traditional beer garden tables and lounge in Adirondack chairs by portable fire pits, all while soaking in views of the Delaware River.

Live music at Fishtown Hops, including bands and DJs, and a rotating roster of the city’s popular food trucks will be provided by Philadelphia agency Mole Street. Entertainment and food trucks will be scheduled Thursday through Sunday weekly. Guests can also play corn hole, shuffleboard, foosball and other games throughout the day and night.

To celebrate its place as Philly’s newest beer garden, Fishtown Hops and SugarHouse Casino are sponsors of the 10th anniversary of Philly Beer Week, which runs June 1-11.
