FAIRFAX, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ellucian, the leading provider of higher education software and services, announced today that Mercer County Community College has deployed Colleague by Ellucian as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution based in the cloud. Mercer County Community College is the first institution to deploy this next generation enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution, running on Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Mercer County Community College, which serves more than 11,000 students at two campuses in West Windsor and Trenton, N.J., is an accredited two-year public community college. Over its 50-year history, the college has become an educational and cultural hub for the residents of Mercer County and beyond.
“We are proud to be the first institution to make the transition to the cloud-based Colleague SaaS solution,” said Dr. Jianping Wang, president of Mercer County Community College. “Our decision to move is consistent with our top strategic goal — to ensure student success. The new Colleague SaaS solution provides us with the technology necessary to carry out our commitment to serving students anytime and anywhere, which is the expectation of today’s mobile students. It also enhances the ability for our faculty and staff to better serve and connect with our students to ensure their academic progress and completion. This is just another example of how Mercer uses technology to innovate for the benefit of our students.”
“We completed the move just four months after the kick-off,” she continued. “The college received all the support from Ellucian to make sure there was minimal disruption to students, faculty and staff.”
Moving its Colleague ERP to SaaS allows Mercer County Community College to easily access the most current application releases by providing the most modern user experience and allowing the institution to focus on serving students.
“Mercer County Community College has been a Colleague institution since 2011 and was the ideal first mover to shift fully to the AWS cloud with a SaaS deployment,” said Jeff Ray, president and CEO of Ellucian. “By moving to SaaS, they have unlocked a flexible, scalable and secure model of continuous improvement and innovation that helps the institution focus on providing an extraordinary student experience.”
“The AWS Cloud helps SaaS providers, like Ellucian, deliver scalable and flexible solutions to their customers,” said Teresa Carlson, vice president, worldwide public sector, for AWS. “We are seeing more institutions take advantage of all the benefits SaaS on the cloud has to offer, most notably, allowing them to be able to focus on delivering the best possible student and staff learning experience.”
