Harvest 2017

Chapel Down’s outlook remains positive despite the frosts suffered in England last week.

The impact of the late April frosts in England was widespread but patchy and Chapel Down mitigates this risk by sourcing fruit from across a wide geographic area. Frazer Thompson, Chapel Down’s CEO, explains: “The impact of last week’s frosts was mixed with some of our vineyards impacted and some not at all. It is far from catastrophic and the truth is that as ever we won’t be in a position to gauge the potential crop until after flowering in June.”

Chapel Down has continued its investment in English Wines, expanding its tourism business with the opening of a new state-of-the-art tasting room at the winery in Kent last week; and plans to further increase its total acreage by planting 129 acres over the course of the next year. The Company has also developed a significant and fast-growing beer and cider business in Curious Drinks, with the previously announced construction of a brewery in Ashford which is due to open in mid-2018.

Frazer continued: “We have not seen April frosts as widespread as those of last week for in excess of 20 years. It is a rare occurrence and the outlook for our dynamic English Wines industry remains bright.”
