WASHINGTON--()--The Cadmus Group, Inc. (Cadmus), a leading consultancy in homeland security, business resilience, natural and built environments, energy, climate, international development, and public health announced today that W. Craig Fugate has joined the company as senior advisor to the CEO.

Mr. Fugate is one of the world’s leading experts in emergency and crisis management.

Mr. Fugate served as FEMA administrator from May 2008 to January 2017. During his tenure, he led the agency through more than 500 presidentially declared major disasters and emergencies and created what has become known as the Waffle House Index—an informal metric used to help predict the effects of an incoming storm and the potential level of assistance required for disaster recovery. He also guided U.S. assistance in international disasters such as the earthquake in Haiti and the Fukushima radiological incident in Japan.

Mr. Fugate will bring a broader global perspective to Cadmus through his experience with international disaster management. He will also help to enhance Cadmus’ existing expertise providing homeland security management consulting and training to federal, state, and local agencies, international governments, and leading private sector companies. His insights and contributions will deepen Cadmus’ abilities in risk assessments and high-impact exercises across a range of challenges, including cybersecurity, natural hazards, terrorist attacks, climate resilience, and public health risks.

“Cadmus has a proven history as a trusted partner in helping organizations prepare for and manage crises,” Mr. Fugate said. “We have a shared view of the world in helping clients build crisis teams and capabilities to mitigate future risks.”

Mr. Fugate promotes innovation and forward thinking, with an emphasis on solving emergency management challenges as a community. Cadmus takes the same approach. This alignment, along with Cadmus’ distinction of being the only organization to have trained both the Obama administration—including the president and his Cabinet—and the current administration and Cabinet, were driving factors in his decision to join Cadmus.

“Having a visionary such as Craig on board empowers Cadmus to provide unparalleled advice and solutions for our clients looking to solve complex challenges,” said Ian Kline, Cadmus president and CEO. “It is our mutual belief that emergency management, resilience, and preparedness work best when approached holistically and with innovation at their core. Together, we have a greater opportunity to positively impact our world.”
