Large law firms typically have raised their rates the most and also discounted the most, 2 steps forward and 1 step back strategy. This changed in 2016 and 2017 with the lowest discounting by the large law firms since 2011.
Smaller firms, as measured by firms smaller than the top 200, however, had the largest discounts which indicates the difficulty they have in maintaining their rates in a competitive market, according to the report.
