IRI to Discuss State of Frozen and Refrigerated Industry and Breakthrough Innovation at NFRA Executive Conference

John Crawford, Vice President, Client Insights-Dairy, IRI®

Larry Levin, Executive Vice President, IRI

The frozen and refrigerated sections of the store continue to play important roles in the consumer shopping experience, generating a combined $167 billion in sales. While dollars declined in 2016, driven by depressed egg, milk and meat pricing, there were exciting pockets of growth that hit on consumer trends. Both sections leverage new products to drive their aisles and give families fun and exciting experiences. At the NFRA Executive Conference, IRI’s Larry Levin and John Crawford will open the two-day forum by discussing the state of frozen and refrigerated business with an eye toward connecting with key consumer groups that are driving today’s market in their “Driving Growth in Frozen and Refrigerated” session. In addition, Levin will conclude the conference with a review of breakthrough innovation across both departments during his session, “The Keys to Inspiring Innovation That Drive New Product Success.”

The frozen and refrigerated sections of the store continue to drive pockets of growth with inspiring and relevant products that match consumers’ passions for pizzazz, prevention and personalization. Meeting their needs with compelling new product innovation helps CPG manufacturers and retailers connect with consumers and meet their needs. New products also bring a breath of excitement for retailers, manufacturers and, most importantly, consumers. But success is daunting — fewer than one in 10 new product ideas actually break through. Identifying trends and getting innovation right is a critical initiative. Preparing for introduction and year two are keys to driving long-term success.
