Pica8 Extends 100G White Box Switch Portfolio With Dell

Customers Get Choice of Switches from Major Manufacturers

PALO ALTO, Calif.--()--Pica8 Inc., the one-stop source for white box networking, today announced that it has extended its white box switch portfolio with the addition of Dell’s Z9100-ON 100-Gigabit Ethernet switch. This brings to five the number of 100-Gigabit white box and “brite box” switches supported by Pica8’s PicOS™, including switches from Edge-Core Networks, HPE, and Inventec. In the Edge-Core switch lineup, customers have their choice of models powered by either Broadcom’s Tomahawk chip or Cavium’s XPliant chip.

“Enterprises and service providers are rapidly adopting 100-Gigabit switches in their networks, and they need white box and brite box choices to minimize costs and avoid vendor lock-in,” said Niraj Jain, vice president of business development at Pica8. “With the addition of Dell’s 100-Gigabit switch, we now offer a wider range of choices for customers implementing PicOS.”

One of Pica8’s OEM partners leveraging the 10G and 100G Dell switches supported on PicOS is Cloudistics, a leading on-premises cloud platform for enterprise cloud computing. “Pica8’s open networking OS is a critical component of our high speed micro-segmentation approach,” said Cloudistics’ CEO Najaf Husain. “With the latest 100GB support, our customers can scale their on-premises cloud environments to many thousands of cores and petabytes of flash storage, while delivering market-leading performance.”

Pica8 continues to provide innovative networking solutions for customers in many segments and industries, including video production, retail and mobile backhaul. White box networking started in the data center, but is now expanding to include campus LANs, access networks and many critical installations within service provider networks. The ability to separate networking software from the hardware it runs on is improving the economics of networking, for network speeds from 1-Gigabit to 100-Gigabit and beyond.
