ThrowMotion’s Cloud Connected Table-Top Cricket Makes Lord’s Debut

Visitors Will Have Opportunity to Play Cricket Live! at the Home of Cricket

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--()--Visitors to the MCC Museum at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London will be able to play their own ‘mini T20’ match on Cricket Live!, the web-connected cricket table game from ThrowMotion Inc. that’s part of the museum’s new interactive game exhibit.

The foosball-sized game from ThrowMotion brings cricket to the table-top in a physical format with full 3-dimensional ball dynamics. The game, in which a multi-axis batsman faces off against a bowler who can change the length and line of a delivery, or add spin, is designed to reflect the future of digitally connected, physical games.

“We wanted to give visitors a ‘hands-on’ opportunity to play an innovative game that reflects the nuances of the sport,” said Charlotte Goodhew, MCC Collections Manager and organizer for the exhibition on cricket games that’s currently running at Lord’s. “Our exhibit is designed to portray the past and the future of cricket games, and ThrowMotion’s Cricket Live! game fits in perfectly with this theme.”

Digital technology integrated into the unit significantly enhances the game experience. Strategically placed infrared light sensors detect how fast each ball is bowled, how fast balls are hit, and where they’re hit. The sensors feed into an Android-based tablet app that provides automatic scoring, stadium sound effects, and ball-by-ball commentary. An accompanying phone app allows users to log into any ThrowMotion game table to track scores and stats, and to view ball-by-ball updates on games in progress. For every ball that’s bowled, a variety of measurements are recorded: ball speed, runs, hit direction, outs and other attributes of interest to players.

“We’re pleased that visitors to Lord’s, the Home of Cricket, will be able to take advantage of this unique game experience,” said Aditya Dayal, ThrowMotion’s founder. “It’s an important step towards ThrowMotion cricket enjoying widespread use in the UK, whether it be in corporations, in social venues such as pubs, or in homes.”

ThrowMotion Cricket Live! provides options for players to track stats such as team wins/losses, batting and bowling averages, and strike rates. The game’s interactive features and mobile app make it easy to create teams, leagues, ladders, and tournaments and to track and share performance data.
