CINCINNATI--()--Ohio’s largest commercial health insurer officially opened the doors today to its new 80,000 square-foot offices in Oakley, with Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley on hand to celebrate the partnership that kept 400 jobs within the city.

“The growth of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Oakley is catalytic for an already very vibrant neighborhood,” said Mayor Cranley. “At the same time, Oakley is a great fit for an employer like Anthem with its prime location, variety of amenities, and wide range of housing stock. We welcome the company and these jobs to Oakley, and look forward to watching its continued growth.”

After nearly 60 years in its East Walnut Hills location, Anthem determined that it needed updated office space with the technological capability to support the critical customer service, finance and sales operations work being performed in the building. The City of Cincinnati’s Department of Community and Economic Development reached out to Anthem officials and worked closely with the insurer to help keep the jobs in Cincinnati.

“Anthem has deep roots in Cincinnati and keeping a large employee presence here was high on our priority list,” said Erin Hoeflinger, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Ohio. “The city has been a proactive partner in helping us accomplish that goal. As a result, we’re proud to open our new building and we look forward to remaining a part of the Cincinnati business community for a long time to come.”

The new three-story building and parking structure project was completed by local developer and design-builder Al. Neyer with project design by Cincinnati-based firms The Dollries Group and architect of record Neyer Architects, Inc.

Located on Vandercar Way in the fast-developing Oakley Station area, the building features two wings connected by a modern glass atrium filled with sunlight and vibrant colors. The facility earned a Silver green building certification from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).

“This project is a perfect example of Al. Neyer’s mission of building pride in real estate,” says Dan Ruh, EVP, real estate development, and Cincinnati market leader, Al. Neyer. “We are humbled to recruit several businesses to Oakley, including Anthem, and help this neighborhood experience a 21st century transformation.”

Anthem’s new building also reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles. Among its amenities are a fully-staffed fitness center, health-focused food service and bright stairwells which emphasize steps over elevators. The building’s location also promotes walking to and shopping at nearby businesses in the Oakley area.

About 400 local construction workers and tradespeople were employed in the construction of Anthem’s Oakley Station building. Anthem also has a large employee presence throughout Greater Cincinnati, with about 3,000 associates in Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky.
