MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ:SYMC) today announced that Symantec Endpoint Protection and Norton Security won AV-TEST Institute’s “Best Protection Award 2016” in consecutive years for its industry-leading capabilities to stop sophisticated cyberattacks. Symantec is the first company to win this prestigious award in both the Business and Consumer categories two years in a row.
AV-TEST, globally recognized for its rigorous independent testing practices, evaluates the efficacy of endpoint security solutions against advanced attacks throughout the year. Security solutions are subjected to more than 1,000 live zero-day attacks delivered via infected websites and e-mail to measure a product’s complete protection ability. In addition, AV-TEST measures the security solution’s detection of more than 100,000 current and widespread threats.
“For the second consecutive year, Symantec has achieved the highest protection scores simultaneously in both the business and consumer protection categories—a feat no other company has accomplished,” said Andreas Marx, CEO, AV-TEST. “Symantec Endpoint Protection and Norton Security demonstrated impressive security protection in the 2016 testing series, particularly in comparison to competing solutions. Our rigorous testing resulted in Symantec coming out on top with the most secure solutions for both organizations and consumers.”
In each of AV-TEST’s six certification tests, Symantec Endpoint Protection and Norton Security blocked virtually every single attack. The nearest competitor missed twice as many live zero-day threats.
“As the pace and sophistication of cybercriminals advance, it’s Symantec’s number one priority to continually innovate our solutions,” said Adam Bromwich, senior vice president, Symantec Security Technology and Response, Symantec. “This year we released advanced machine learning technology and sophisticated zero-day exploit protection to keep our customers protected from the latest attack techniques. Combined with the artificial intelligence capabilities of our big data telemetry network, our solutions make it nearly impossible for attackers to penetrate the endpoints we protect, helping to ensure our consumer and business customers stay safe.”
Powered by the largest civilian threat intelligence network in the world, Symantec now protects 175 million consumer and enterprise endpoints, 163 million email users, 80 million web proxy users, and processes nearly eight billion security requests every day.
Unrivaled Endpoint Protection for Enterprises and Consumers
In November 2016, Symantec unveiled Symantec Endpoint Protection 14, which delivers powerful protection, detection and response with a single lightweight agent, by adding advanced machine learning and AI on the endpoint and in the cloud, creating the industry’s most complete endpoint protection solution.
Norton Security, Symantec’s flagship consumer security solution, beat out twenty competitive products in all of AV-Test’s protection categories for the second year in a row. Norton safeguards users’ devices and private information from today’s most aggressive threats and ransomware. Multi-layered protection technologies, with the addition of advanced machine learning and AI and new zero-day exploit protection proactively identify at-risk files and stop zero-day threats without slowing down a machine’s performance.
