Counsyl Strengthens Focus on Preventive Genetic Testing for Women’s Health

Genetic testing firm announces product upgrades and milestone of 700,000 patients screened

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--()--Counsyl, a DNA testing and genetic counseling service has deepened its focus on women’s health, announcing several milestones and business updates, including upgrades to its flagship carrier screen, the Family Prep Screen.

As the U.S. market leader in expanded carrier screening, Counsyl has now screened more than 700,000 patients and identified more than 8,000 couples at-risk of passing inherited genetic disorders to their children. The company has also provided over 54,000 genetic counseling sessions to patients, delivered by its team of board certified genetic counselors.

The upgraded Family Prep Screen includes an intelligent panel design that maximizes coverage for the most prevalent serious and profound genetic conditions. The upgraded version will be generally available in Q2 and will see its at-risk couple detection rate increase by approximately 16 percent, an industry leading rate for clinically actionable conditions.

In order to strengthen its focus on women’s health, Counsyl is also moving forward with a consolidated sales channel, focused on serving the needs of its core women’s health patients and providers. The company is releasing its dedicated oncology sales team, which accounts for approximately five (5) percent of the workforce, during the month of January. Counsyl will continue to develop and support its Inherited Cancer Screen test for preventive screening applications.

“We’re proud to have offered important health information to more than 700,000 patients, and are committed to continue providing screening tools that help to improve women’s health and enable healthcare providers to deliver the best medical care. We have a unique opportunity to strengthen our leadership role in preventive genetic testing for Women’s Health applications,” said Ramji Srinivasan, co-founder and CEO of Counsyl.
