DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Research and Markets has announced the addition of the "European Market Report for Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters 2017 - MedCore" report to their offering.
The European PICC market includes conventional PICCs and power-injectable PICCs. There is a trend towards increasing use of power-injectable PICCs as these devices become more affordable. The PICC markets across Europe are relatively new when compared to other catheter markets such as implantable ports, central venous catheters (CVCs) and peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVCs).
Growth seen in the PICC market is a result of PICCs partially cannibalizing procedures from ports, CVCs and PIVCs as well as new indication for PICCs.
The Italian PICC market is particularly well developed. Despite having a lower population than the Germany, France and the U.K., Italy represented the second largest PICC market in Europe in 2016, in terms of units sold and market value.
The high utilization of PICCs in Italy is attributed to the success of training programs teaching nurses to insert PICCs and the creation of nursing teams specializing in PICC insertion. This comes in contrast to other European markets where PICC insertion is performed largely by physicians. C. R. Bard has played a key role in developing the Italian PICC market.
